What types of conditions does Dr. Verdugo treat?

Dr. Verdugo specializes in treating conditions from fingertip to shoulder, including injuries and disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He also provides advanced care for fractures and traumatic injuries across both the upper and lower extremities, with particular expertise in pediatric trauma and growth plate injuries. Whether you need treatment for a complex hand injury, nerve compression, joint instability, or a broken bone, Dr. Verdugo offers expert care to help restore function and mobility.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can call our office or use the online request form to schedule an appointment with Dr. Verdugo.

What insurances do you accept?

We accept most major insurance plans. Please contact your insurance company or you may call our office at (806) 810-3610 to find out if we accept your insurance plan.

If your insurance plan requires you to pay a co-payment, co-insurance, and/or a deductible, you will need to pay at the time of your visit. For your convenience we accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and Care Credit.

If you have a question related to your bill or insurance, please contact our billing specialists. 

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

Cancellations for office visits must be made at least 24 hours in advance; otherwise, a $50 fee will be charged. Cancellations for surgery must be made at least one week in advance, or a $250 fee will apply.

Can I get a second opinion from Dr. Verdugo?

Yes, Dr. Verdugo is happy to offer second opinions for orthopedic concerns, injuries, or prior diagnoses.

What makes Dr. Verdugo different from other orthopedic surgeons?

He is the only orthopedic surgeon in the region with fellowship training in four subspecialties—and the only pediatric hand specialist in West Texas.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a photo ID, insurance card (if applicable), any relevant imaging or medical records, and a list of your current medications.

Is Dr. Verdugo accepting new patients?

Yes, Dr. Verdugo is currently accepting new patients of all ages.

Does Dr. Verdugo offer non-surgical treatment options?

Yes, he prioritizes conservative care and only recommends surgery when necessary.

What is minimally invasive orthopedic surgery?

It involves smaller incisions, less tissue disruption, and faster recovery times compared to traditional open surgery.

What are the signs of carpal tunnel syndrome?

Common symptoms include numbness, tingling, or pain in the fingers and hands—especially at night or with certain hand movements.

Do you treat sports injuries in teens and young adults?

Yes, Dr. Verdugo provides sports medicine care for student-athletes and active individuals of all ages.

What pediatric conditions does Dr. Verdugo treat?

He treats fractures, growth plate injuries, hip dysplasia, congenital deformities, limb length differences, and more.

What are your hours of operation, and are you open year-round?

Yes, we are open year round.  Our hours of operation are as follows.

Monday to Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 
Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Do you need a referral?

If your insurance is an HMO/managed care plan and you are required to obtain a referral from your primary care physician, the referral must be obtained before you can be seen for an office visit. Please coordinate this with your primary care physician in advance.

Appointments will be rescheduled if required referrals are not received in the office by the time of your visit.

Prescription requests?

Prescriptions and refills for established patients of Dr. Verdugo are routinely issued during our regular office hours (see above). You can make your request by calling our office at (806) 810-3610.

No refills are issued during the evenings, weekends, or holidays, as the doctors do not have access to your medical records during those times. It is helpful to anticipate your refill needs to avoid an interruption in your medication therapy.
