Joint Replacement
Lubbock orthopedic surgeon Alejandro Verdugo, MD, would be delighted to consult with you about a joint replacement procedure. He performs joint replacement for the knee, shoulder, wrist, knuckles, and elbow. While Dr. Verdugo does not do hip replacements, he offers hip preservation instead – a procedure that can be done earlier in life to prevent hip arthritis and the need for a hip replacement.
Having orthopedic surgery is a big decision, and choosing an experienced surgeon can be the difference that ensures your procedure is a success. With Dr. Verdugo’s background and extensive orthopedic training, he is well-qualified in all areas of joint replacement surgery.
Joint replacement surgery is done to replace a damaged or diseased joint with a new, man-made replica of the joint. It can be performed the traditional way with a large incision, or as a minimally invasive procedure. Dr. Verdugo may first perform arthroscopy to determine the extent of damage to your joint and what type of surgery you will need.
Knee Replacement
Knee replacement surgery can relieve knee pain and improve mobility. Dr. Verdugo performs knee replacements using Visionaire®, a technology that improves accuracy in the alignment, rotation, and sizing of the artificial joint.
Patient-specific instrumentation takes into account your unique knee joint anatomy, resulting in a joint replacement that fits better and feels natural. Improved techniques and patient-specific implants can shorten recovery times and make your knee feel as good as new.
Sometimes the entire knee joint needs to replaced, but for many patients, a partial knee replacement might be all that is needed (if only part of the knee is affected by arthritis). Dr. Verdugo will determine which type of knee replacement you need:
Shoulder Replacement
Shoulder replacement surgery can be successful at relieving your pain when other methods fail. If you have shoulder pain caused by severe arthritis or an injury, you may be a candidate for shoulder replacement surgery. We offer:
Dr. Verdugo will take a digital X-ray to get an immediate look at what is going on inside the joint. If the X-ray is inconclusive, we have MRI in the office. We’ll take care of everything at one convenient location! By the end of your appointment, you and Dr. Verdugo will have a clear idea of what the problem is and how to fix it.
